Masculine interior design and remodel: sophisticated simplicity downtown
This downtown brownstone began as a simple space with no visual interest. Limited windows allowed little natural light to travel the span of the Minneapolis residence. The client, a retired gentleman, had recently downsized from his large, lakeside estate to fit his newly single and urban lifestyle.
Innovative interior design lets in the light – and the life. The Minneapolis homeowner turned to Interior Designer Mallory Archer to create a space that celebrated his past treasures, while providing an elegant, simplified sense of individual comfort in which to enjoy his spectacular urban views of downtown and the Mississippi River.
Light elements in the home design illuminate a dark space. Interior Designer Mallory Archer scrutinized every aspect of the dining room, initially devoid of natural light, to find the perfect lighting and décor. The glass tabletop creates a feeling of weightlessness and elegance. A hand-blown glass pendant illuminates the masculine space and serves as a functional art piece. A contemporary glass lamp sits atop a delicate, black buffet, providing a focal point of tasteful contrast. Directional overhead lighting engages guests with one of several pieces from the homeowner’s art collection.
The livingroom combines urban-contemporary home design and eclectic art. The white marble fireplace and curved hearth maintains simple sophistication while inviting the warmth of natural stone into the room. Interior Designer Mallory Archer achieves a highly personal and inviting conversation area by blending rich leathers, textured fabrics, and light-catching silks into the downtown space.
Warm, contemporary and comfortable. The bachelor’s artwork serves as an exquisite backdrop in the urban media room. Traditional and antique rugs, masculine colors, and contemporary furniture combine to create a cozy, yet sophisticated “go-to” space for movie watching.
The wet bar designed on a blank end wall of a third floor hallway to accommodate rooftop entertaining. Hand glazed tile creates a beautiful sheen in contrast to matte black wood.
The kitchen – once a drab, monotone room – is now a distinctive, accessible gathering area. Low-VOC black paint grounds the cabinetry, complementing the existing granite countertops and accentuating the stainless-steel appliances.
